More & more sites are blocking tools like ChatGPT from accessing their content. This is going to be a pendulum swing back & forth as each publisher decides if it’s more valuable to have their audience find them in AI, or to hold onto their content and make it a unique resource.
Whatever the outcome, sometimes you want to give a URL to ChatGPT as part of a prompt. I frequently ask for summaries of articles when I don’t have time to read the whole thing.
But what happens when the site blocks ChatGPT?
In your browser, FILE > PRINT > PDF > upload PDF to ChatGPT!
If given the option, also turn of ‘background images’ before generating the PDF to cut out ads that might confuse it. Alternatively, add a note to your prompt such as “I am giving you a webpage and will have questions for you. When you read the page, focus on the content of the article, do not include anything you think is an ad or a native ad headline.”
